In a hotly contested election year, political lawn signs are popular targets for vandalism, but a Westport woman says she has found a solution.
Vicki Volper says a few weeks ago, her Biden-Harris sign went missing.
Volper says she ordered a fresh sign from Biden's campaign website the same day and added a message of her own to any would-be thieves.
It said: "Every time you steal this sign, I will donate another $100 to the Biden campaign."
Volper said it seems to have done the trick because it wasn't stolen again.
Volper says petty theft has no place in civilized political discourse.
"I respect people who are Republicans, they're entitled to their opinions," she says. "When people steal my signs, that shows a lack of respect for my opinion."
She says if people don't like her choice of candidate, they can make their voices heard on Election Day.
Westport police are reminding residents that trespassing and theft are both against the law - and can result in arrest.
