This week's "What's Ailing You" focuses on the fallacy that eating low-fat foods will prevent you from getting fat.
Dr. Mary Arden-Cordone, of the Center for Medical Weight Loss in Stamford, says eating foods specifically manufactured to be low in fat can sabotage your efforts to lose weight. Dr. Cordone says companies add high fructose corn syrup, as well as other extra sugars and starches to make up for the flavor and texture lost when cutting out fat.
She adds that there is a weight loss benefit, however, to eating foods that contain less fat naturally.
