Pedestrian left in critical condition following Bridgeport car collision

Upon arrival units were notified that a 71-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle and was lying on the ground suffering from serious injuries.

Bridgeport fire and police officials responded to a serious traffic incident at approximately 6:52 a.m. at the intersection of Water and John streets.

Upon arrival, units were notified that a 71-year-old man was struck by a motor vehicle and was lying on the ground with serious injuries. The man was transferred to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police say that after a preliminary investigation, it was determined that a 29-year-old Bridgeport resident was driving a Honda Civic on John Street and struck the 71-year-old who was walking on Water Street.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.

The Bridgeport Police Traffic Division is investigating the collision.
