Norwalk police say they have arrested a man for allegedly strangling his girlfriend in the home they shared.
They say 44-year-old Bertony Thompson killed 62-year-old Jackie Silverman Wednesday night at the Dreamy Hollow complex on Wolf Pitt Avenue. Authorities initially went to the couple's home after someone called saying Thompson was suicidal.
Police say they found Silverman lying dead in the bedroom when they entered the home, while Thompson was unconscious beside her.
The state medical examiner says the cause of death was homicide by asphyxiation.
Neighbors say they only knew the couple to be loving toward each other. However, police say Thompson may have snapped.
Officials could not confirm whether alcohol was a factor in the incident, or how Thompson wound up unconscious.
There is no knowledge at this point of Thompson having a history of domestic violence. He is due in court on Monday.
