Despite the coronavirus pandemic, a Republican candidate for the 3rd Congressional District held an in-person rally in Milford Sunday.
Margaret Streicker is challenging a 30-year incumbent Rep. Rosa DeLauro. Dozens of people gathered at the Milford train station to show support safely from a distance.
The mother of four, business owner and first-time politician says the fervor for change in the state is palatable.
Streicker was joined by state Rep. Themis Klarides, as well as Ansonia Mayor David Cosetti. It will be an uphill battle for Streicker, as she's going up against a 15-term incumbent.
Klarides called for more Republicans on Capitol Hill while praising Streicker's plight as a woman, and mother, of the people.
She says she may be a challenger, but taking her for an underdog would be a mistake. Streicker also says those in office have failed to unify the district, partly because they've been at the top for too long.
Streicker says there may be a debate in the works between her and DeLauro.
No one was allowed to take part in the rally If they tested positive or experienced any coronavirus symptoms in the last 14 days.
News 12 reached out to DeLauro's camp for a statement.
