In anticipation of the scorching weekend, with the mercury bar expected to climb well into the 90s, City Island businesses are gearing up for an influx of visitors from around the Tri-State area.
The owners of the popular seafood restaurant Johnny?s Reef have been stocking on food and alcohol supplies and bringing in extra staffers to prepare for the weekend.
One of the owners, Ted Karikas, said that despite the hot and humid weather, visitors can count on a nice ocean breeze and slightly lower temperatures on City Island.
?The great thing about our location is even if it?s 90 something degrees, over here by the water it?s usually cooler,? he said.
Forecasters say the heat wave is likely to last through Tuesday, with temperatures hitting 90 degrees and above beginning Saturday.
