Emotions ran high at a public meeting in Cortlandt where fire victims expressed concerns over "shoddy work" being done on their condos.    

More than a dozen condo owners aired their grievance at the public meeting at Cortlandt Town Hall.

They lost their Coachlight Square condos in Montrose in an August 2021 fire and say are frustrated that they are paying rent elsewhere because the construction to repair their homes is still ongoing 19 months later.

They blame their condo's board and contractor Belfor Property Restoration, both were invited to the meeting and were no shows.

Cortlandt Town Supervisor Dr. Richard Becker has contacted the attorney general's office, which is now looking into residents' concerns.

"They have not delivered what they were supposed to, and the other is malfeasance because they have caused these people hardship and money," said Becker. One condo board member did show, although he was not on the board when decisions on the damaged condos were made.

"I showed up because I felt it was important to show up and show support for the people that have been out of housing for 19 months," said board member 
James Hodges.Residents say are also worried about the quality of work that's been done.
Becker hopes residents can move in by the end of February, but that is not a date confirmed by the condo's board or Belfor.

News 12 reached out to the condo's board president for comment and did not hear back.

A representative from Belfor previously said that construction delays are due to work on a gas line, which has now been completed.

They added that industrywide shortages in material and labor were also a factor.
