Donations make spirits bright after Toys for Tots gifts are stolen
The pastor of Greater Bridgeport Christian Fellowship Church says 800 toys meant for charity that were stolen last week have been replaced.
The pastor says a check worth $3,500 from Attorney Michael J. Rosnick of the law firm Miller, Rosnick, D'Amico, August & Butler has put them over the top.
The check was presented Wednesday at police headquarters to Police Chief AJ Perez.
Rosnick saw the original story on News 12 Connecticut and called the newsroom to say his firm wanted to help.
News 12 reported that $8,000 worth of toys collected for the Marine Toys For Tots program was stolen by two thieves from storage containers behind the church on Saturday morning.
Rosnick says he was so disturbed by the theft that he wanted to help make sure no child went without a toy.
"There's nothing more important than children. There's no greater joy than seeing a smile on a child's face," says Rosnick. "Fortunately, we're in a position where we can help out."
Wonderland of Ice also contacted News 12 Connecticut and donated $2,000.
Capt. Brian Fitzgerald of the Bridgeport Police Department says a man whose legal name is Infinite Seven is somebody police want to talk to in connection with the burglary.
"I think it's important that we get to him as soon as possible before all the toys are resold on the street," Fitzgerald says.
He also says the department began a special toy drive to help Toys for Tots.
