A Stamford food pantry and kitchen is asking for more donations now that it's operating out of a larger facility that can feed more residents in need.
The New Covenant Center recently moved from the Yerwood Community Center to a larger, renovated facility across the street.
The center serves lunch and dinner every day, according to executive director John Gutman, and it opens the food pantry twice a week. Organizers plan to operate the pantry three days a week next month.
The center also provides barber services and plans to add a shower facility for homeless people beginning in January, which will require towel and toiletry donations.
Staff members say the center served more than 700,000 meals last year in the old location, a number they say will be much higher in their new place.
