Fairfield police are warning residents about a pair of thieves who are targeting unlocked cars that have automatic garage door openers inside. Police say that in total, five cars were targeted specifically for their garage door openers in the area last night, likely as a means to burglarize homes. The break-ins happened near Church Hill Road and Wynn Wood Drive. Investigators say two men used an automatic door opener to break into one home while homeowner and his wife were asleep. Police say the homeowner, Sol Briks, scared the duo away after hearing them use garage door opener from his car, which was unlocked in the driveway. Briks says he woke up and ran downstairs immediately, yelled at the men and scared them off. Nothing was taken from the garage.
According to police, all cars that were targeted were unlocked.
