Several fire departments spent hours battling a fire at a former factory Monday night in Naugatuck.
The Naugatuck Fire Department says they were called to the former Lewis engineering building, a former air parts manufacturer, at around 6 p.m.
Firefighters say the building has been vacant since about 2012. Some nearby residents were removed from their homes as a precaution due to the smoke conditions.
Authorities say the area near the fire scene on Water Street will be closed to the public today. That includes a day care and nearby homes.
