Gov. Phil Murphy has announced that a former Fort Monmouth Army base is going to become Netflix’s East Coast production facility.
A release from Murphy stated that the property, which has been largely vacant for over a decade, will be transformed into “an economic engine that is estimated to create more than 1,500 permanent production jobs and more than 3,500 construction-related jobs in New Jersey.”
New Jersey Business & Industry Association President and CEO Michele Siekerka issued a statement about the announcement which said in part, “We are thrilled by the promise this Netflix project will deliver. Jobs and innovation are at the heart of this Netflix-New Jersey partnership, just as they were throughout Fort Monmouth's rich history.”
