Bridgeport officials say a man is alive Saturday thanks to the quick thinking of first responders and a good Samaritan.
Officials say the crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Laurel Place and Brooklawn Avenue.
Police Capt. A.J. Perez says that when Officer Julio Diez arrived at the scene of the crash, he immediately helped to free a driver trapped in his car. That man was then rushed to the hospital.
Officials say that residents from Fairfield and Bridgeport also helped in the rescue.
Police say the driver who caused that crash was under the influence of heroin and driving on the wrong side of the street.
