A massive fire broke out at a mansion in the Loveladies section on Long Beach Island early Monday morning.
More than 100 volunteer firefighters responded to the four-alarm blaze on the bay-side property, which was reported just after 4 a.m.
The fire quickly spread throughout the house with flames shooting from the second story.
Assistant Fire Chief Sponge Washburn of the Barnegat Light Fire Department described the challenges of battling the blaze in frigid conditions.
"Once we started putting water on the fire, everything started icing over…We had fire equipment freezing up. We had difficulty separating hoses…so it is a problem."
Despite the icy conditions, no injuries were reported among the firefighters
According to a neighbor, the homeowners were not present at the time of the fire.
