The president of a local community college learned Thursday that he will be in attendance next week when President Barack Obama gives his State of the Union address.
Students and faculty at Norwalk Community College were buzzing when they learned that Rep. Jim Himes invited NCC's Dr. David Levinson to the State of the Union.
Dr. Levinson has been the president of NCC for 10 years and is the vice president of the state college and university system.
Dr. Levinson says the invitation is a tremendous honor and dream come true. He says he is very excited for the opportunity to see the State of the Union address live and to hopefully meet people in Congress.
Last week, President Obama proposed making two years of community college free for qualifying students. Dr. Levinson says he fully supports President Obama's plan and thinks it's time for community college attendance to become the norm.
President Obama's State of the Union address is scheduled for Tuesday night.
