A Norwalk woman who grew up in the Bahamas will return to the islands Saturday to help clean up after Hurricane Dorian.
Delores Scott moved from the Caribbean in 1959 and visits regularly. But when Dorian hit as a Category 5 hurricane, all she could do was watch from her home in Connecticut.
Scott says she luckily never lost contact with her family in Nassau during the storm.
"I am still waiting to wake up from this nightmare," she said. "We didn't sleep for two to three nights, talking to each other 24/7."
Scott says when they finally saw the devastation as days went on, it was as if time stood still.
She and her daughter plan to assist her family, who have already been helping out victims.
"Everyone was down at Matthews Church sorting clothing, seeing what needs to be done, trying to arrange fundraisers, and finding places for people to live," she said.
Scott and her daughter will be there for 10 days, where they will help hand out clothing and supplies from a church.
