An osprey became trapped in the netting at Topgolf in Holtsville Monday night.

Rescuers say the osprey freed itself Tuesday morning.

Animal rescuer and advocate, Frankie Floridia, from Strong Island Animal Rescue reported the incident to News 12.

"We're very grateful for that because if he was fatigued and he went to fly and he fell down, he would hit like a rock and probably be dead," says Floridia. "It's two in one week. It's very frustrating. We see that this is happening and a lot of Topgolf's all over the country and something needs to be put in place."

As News 12 reported, this comes less than a week after a hawk was stuck in the net at the same facility.

In the incident on Aug. 19, the animal was able to free itself after being lodged 100 feet in the air for over 24 hours, rescuers said.

On Tuesday, a manager at Topgolf told News 12 that the New York State DEC was on site this morning, but they can't comment any further.

Ospreys are federally protected in the United States under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Animal rescuers say something needs to be done.

"They have to have something in place that can get these birds down fast. They need to speak to a company, maybe get on a contract, have something that can be here within an hour or two to get this down," says Floridia. "Maybe the nets can have a drop down where they can pull them down, or they need to get a bucket truck on the ground here that can get them up that high."
