Police say a man is facing charges Monday in connection with a touching incident that involved a 14-year-old girl in Fairfield last month.
According to officials, Harry Metz, 54, of Redding, was charged with sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor after turning himself into police. They say the incident happened at the Jennings Beach parking lot during Fairfield's fireworks on July 2.
Police say the victim tried to take a picture of herself with her cellphone when Metz jumped into the photo. They say he told the girl his name was Hank, jumped into the photo and touched her.
"With the help of the media, we were able to get that information out to the public and received a lot of leads towards the investigation, which ultimately led to his arrest," says Lt. Robert Kalamaras, of the Fairfield Police Department.
Officials say they don't believe the victim was targeted. Metz was released on a promise to appear in court August 17.
