White supremacist propaganda was spotted in Westport this week.
Police and the Anti-Defamation League say they are cracking down.
Westport police say they found white supremacist graffiti when they were patrolling Thursday night at the boat launch on the Saugatuck River.
"They were saying reject white guilt," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods.
Police say earlier this week they found stickers nearby that were posted by Texas-based Patriot Front.
"It's obvious that this group is here and causing annoyance and disturbances in town with the graffiti and causing alarm for people who see it," said Woods.
The Anti-Defamation League says incidents of white supremacist propaganda have been seen all over the country and set an all-time high last year.
"This quantity of hate represents hate directed at marginalized communities including LGBTQ, Black, immigrant and Jewish," said ADL Connecticut Regional Director Stacey Sobel.
Public works crews documented the locations of the graffiti and painted over it. Police say there were no specific threats to any groups.
The ADL says it’s important for people to stand up and report these incidents.
"Let white supremacists know Connecticut is no place for hate," said Sobel.
Police are investigating.
The ADL says Connecticut saw 207 white supremacist propaganda incidents last year. Westport First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker calls it unacceptable.
Jay Lederman reported earlier on this story.
