A public service announcement made by Sandy Hook Promise won an Emmy over the weekend.
"Back-to-School Essentials" was honored with the award for Outstanding Commercial.
The PSA shows students using basic school items to survive a shooting. It urges viewers to face the reality of gun violence, and not to accept it as normal.
The commercial also encourages people to learn the warning signs of a potential attacker.
Sandy Hook Promise is a Newtown-based nonprofit that aims to end school shootings in the country.
The PSA has been viewed almost 7 million times on YouTube.
