A condominium owner says he is being forced to pay common charges on a home that no longer exists.
Former state Rep. Lee Samowitz is fighting on behalf of the owner, who is facing foreclosure for not paying common charges on a condo that was destroyed by a fire four years ago.
Condo owner Jeff Correia says the condominium association has already received the insurance settlement from the fire, but is not rebuilding, or compensating the victims.
Correia also says the head of the association is trying to force the fire victims into foreclosure for not paying common fees.
In the 1980s, Samowitz helped create Connecticut's condominium laws, which he says were designed to protect condominium owners from losing their homes after they were completely destroyed by fires.
