The Connecticut Department of Transportation is taking part in National Teen Driver Safety Week this week by offering safe-driving programs for young drivers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens ages 15 to 18.
An estimated 2,276 people were killed in car crashes involving teen drivers in 2020 alone, according to the NHTSA. Teen drivers accounted for 748 of those deaths.
