A paralyzed Bridgeport teenager was surprised by his younger brother's school Saturday with donations to help pay his mounting medical bills.
Kevin Roberts, 16, believed he was headed to celebrate his brother's graduation from Precious Memories Preschool. Roberts and his mother were shocked, however, when the school presented them with a check for more than $600.
Roberts was paralyzed from the waist down last September after getting hit in a drive-by shooting. His assailant has not been found.
The funds were raised in coordination with leadership organization Aspira. The money has only been collected since May and future fundraisers are being planned.
Despite his bout with tragedy, Roberts considers himself blessed.
"When you're cute like me, it's easy to stay positive," he says.
