Bitterly cold temperatures undermined clear and sunny skies across southwestern Connecticut Monday.

According to forecasters, strong wind gusts made it feel like 10 degrees below zero. The wind caused people to run for shelter, layer up and sip hot drinks to keep warm.

News 12 Connecticut spoke to a man who said he spent the night on the street sleeping in a tent with a small campfire. He also said he's been homeless for nine years.

Meanwhile, workers at Soup Alley in Norwalk say they spent the weekend and morning chopping up ingredients and cooking soup. The owners say they have been anticipating the cold snap and are ready to keep people warm.Related information:
