A Stamford rabbi at the Chabad Jewish Center for Life and Learning has called upon members of the Jewish community, and the entire world, to respond with goodness to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed 174 people, including a Chabad rabbi and his wife.
Rabbi Yisrael Deren says his community spent the Thanksgiving weekend in mourning, praying for the safety of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, as well as the other people inside the Mumbai Jewish center and other targets of the terrorist attacks. After the Brooklyn rabbi and his wife were confirmed dead, he spoke out about turning to prayer instead of any kind of retaliation.
?The only response that I think makes sense is that, when faced with evil of this magnitude, is to respond with goodness of an even greater magnitude,? Deren says.
