The founder of the only animal ambulance emergency service in Connecticut has died, his sister confirmed.
Jon Nowinski died Wednesday after battling a serious illness his sister announced on Facebook.
Nowinski was the founder of The Connecticut Emergency Animal Response Service, a 24-hour ambulance service for animals.
The Westport resident also worked as a veterinarian's assistant during the day.
He started EARS in 2011 in the wake of Hurricane Irene when residents and businesses needed help with their animals.
EARS provides assistance in disasters with everyday emergencies.
