The Cardinal Spellman girls? basketball team lost to St. John?s Villa 73-71 on a buzzer-beating shot Tuesday.

The Falcons, who haven?t beaten the Staten Island-based St. John?s Villa since 2000, gave the number one-ranked team in the Catholic League?s A Division all they could handle. Carol Johnson led Spellman with 24 points in front of the home crowd.

However, St. John?s Villa proved to be too much in the end. Nicole Capurso, who led all scorers with 32 points, hit the game-winning shot.
