All retail stores in Connecticut that still remain open during the coronavirus pandemic have been ordered to enforce new social distancing guidelines signed in an executive order by Gov. Ned Lamont.
Lamont ordered all retail stores permitted to stay open to follow new social distancing guidelines called "Safe Store Rules" beginning on Friday.
According to the order, occupancy at the stores will now be capped at 50% of capacity.
Workers have been instructed to count the number of customers entering and exiting the store, and customers are told to remain 6 feet from each other while waiting to get inside.
There will also be floor markings at the check-out line and other high traffic areas inside of the store so 6-feet can be kept between customers and workers.
Some aisles inside of stores may only have foot traffic that only goes one-way.
In some stores, plexiglass shields or sneeze guards may be used to separate workers and customers at the register.
Some workers will also be required to wear gloves and face masks when possible.
Self-serve meals like salad and hot bars will be closed, according to the order.
Officials say that only one person per household should do the shopping.
A number of stores in Connecticut are already using similar guidelines. Click here the read the full order and guidelines.
