The 25-year-old former fugitive with a long rap sheet appeared in Norwalk court Thursday after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase last weekend.

Javier Soliz is facing charges of first-degree larceny, reckless operation, engaging in a police pursuit and theft of a car and license plate for the Sunday morning chase. Police say he is also wanted for several other crimes. A judge removed the fugitive charge from his record, which allows southwestern Connecticut authorities to charge and sentence him. His bail was set at $500,000.

Soliz, who was born in Honduras, is wanted for attempted murder in Maryland, where authorities say he tried to kill a fellow inmate while he was in jail. He is also accused of breaking into 15 vehicles and stealing various items in Darien before the chase. Soliz faces 11 separate burglary charges there. He is also expected to face charges out of Westport and Fairfield.

The high-speed chase came to a crashing halt along the Route 7 connector last weekend, where authorities say they found stolen phones, GPS and computer equipment inside the stolen white station wagon.

There is no word on when Soliz will be transferred back to Maryland to face the attempted murder charge. He is due back at Norwalk Superior Court at the end of December.
