A man was found shot to death inside an apartment building Thursday, marking the city's 10th homicide of the year.
Police told News 12 that someone at 360 Palisade Ave. called 911 shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday to say that someone had been shot. Noel Esbri, 32, was later declared dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Police Chief AJ Perez said that while it is still unclear what led to the shooting, investigators are on to a suspect.
"We are very confident that we're probably going to make an arrest on this relatively quickly," said Chief Perez.
Police said all of the people in the apartment where the shooting took place apparently knew each other.
Esbri is being remembered as a gifted musician and rapper who had dreams of making it big in the music business. He was also a star athlete, one who played baseball and football at Harding and Bassick High Schools.
Those in the community say it is especially hard to grieve the death of a young man so close to Christmas. Police say that Esbri was born on Christmas Day in 1983.
