The president of the Norwalk branch of the NAACP expressed outrage Saturday to the burning of a flag on the back of a car owned by an African-American family.
McEdward Desir says he came out of the house to go to work Friday when he discovered the burnt remnants of the flag on the back of his car. Desir believes the act was one of racism and says he is worried for his family. His family recently moved into the Silvermine neighborhood.
Grace Baptist Church Reverend and NAACP'S Norwalk branch President Lindsey Curtis said "Number one, it's the burning of the American Flag. Number two, it's a minority family in an all white community. In 2007 it boggles the mind.?
Curtis says since all the facts of the case haven't come in yet, he's waiting to see if it is an act of vandalism or racism.
The NAACP Norwalk branch says it is waiting for the police to conduct a fair and thorough investigation. They say they will also work closely with them to bring a resolution to this matter.
Norwalk police are still investigating this incident.
