A group of city leaders has introduced a bill that aims to put a registry of gun offenders online.
The bill, introduced by City Councilman Costa Constantinides and spearheaded by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., informs the public in a way similar to the sex offender registry. The registry would allow people to search for an offender's name.
It would also list a description of that person, the crime they committed and the block they live on. Monthly notifications would be provided when a gun offender moves into a neighborhood.
Currently, only the NYPD has access to the database.
Leaders say their ultimate goal is to get the bill passed at the state level.
