Sen. Blumenthal warns taxpayers of IRS scams

Blumenthal says, "There are a lot of con artists out there who will call or text or email -- and the IRS communicates only by mail, so anybody contacted by someone offering a pitch or tax preparation or some benefit through the IRS ought to know the IRS never emails, calls or texts."

Sen. Richard Blumenthal is warning tax filers of a recent surge in IRS scams in Connecticut.
Blumenthal says, "There are a lot of con artists out there who will call or text or email -- and the IRS communicates only by mail, so anybody contacted by someone offering a pitch or tax preparation or some benefit through the IRS ought to know the IRS never emails, calls or texts."
He says scammers target older taxpayers, but people of all ages should beware of any person claiming to represent the IRS and making demands for payment.
