Bronx families receiving public assistance are getting $200 to help with back-to-school expenses, Gov. David Paterson says.
About 275,000 families will have the money transferred into their electronic benefit transfer cash accounts by midnight Tuesday.
Billionaire businessman and philanthropist George Soros donated $35 million for the program. Another $140 million came from the federal stimulus package.
Some Republicans have objected to the plan, arguing Paterson should have spent the $175 million differently.
