Students and staff at the University of New Haven are preparing for the unexpected Friday on campus with the annual mass casualty incident drill.
News 12 Connecticut’s Tom Krosnowski visited the university to find out more details about what has become a tradition for students across the university.
Events during the drill are planned out to give students the real-world experience that many will be facing in emergency management. The School of Criminal Justice and Forensics has been doing the drill for the last several years.
According to the university, past training days have included simulations of a mass shooting, a terrorist driving through campus, an explosive meth lab, and a drone spraying hazardous chemicals on campus.
For students majoring in homeland security, emergency management, cyber threats and more, these may be scenarios they respond to one day.
