The woman charged in connection with the death of her daughter-in-law in Stamford appeared in court Monday.
Mercedes Collazo Martinez is charged with cruelty to persons. Police say she failed to call 911 after her daughter-in-law Iris Lopez was found unresponsive.
Police say Lopez was found last Monday morning, but Martinez didn't call for an ambulance until the evening because her son told her not to. Doctors say Lopez suffered a massive brain bleed due to head trauma, but her autopsy is still pending.
Hector Lopez is also accused of cruelty to persons, but police say additional charges are possible.
Martinez's attorney, Lindy Urso, argued in court Tuesday that his client is not a danger or a flight risk, but the judge kept her bond at $250,000.
Urso maintains Martinez's son is suspected of causing potentially deadly injuries to the victim, not his client. He also said Martinez has been a victim of her son's abuse and that she fears him.
