The Brownsville community is calling for the city to take action, days after a confrontation between police and a fare evader with a weapon turned violent.
That's when officers followed Mickles to demand payment, and he pulled a knife on the officers.
The NYPD says it deployed a malfunctioned taser and fired multiple shots at the suspect, striking two other civilians.
A hot topic is if a change of force is needed within the NYPD.
Mayor Eric Adams responded to the statement during a press conference on Tuesday.
“I thought those officers responded accordingly, all shootings we do an analysis to determine what we could do differently, but those officers stopped a dangerous person," said Adams.
News 12 exclusively spoke to the aunt of the suspect, who says Mickles is a humble, kind man.
