A Fairfield resident who is well-known among local reggae music lovers says people in the United States don't give their bodies enough time to heal on their own.
Mystic Bowie, who is originally from Jamaica, says there should be more of an emphasis in this country on naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic Dr. Melissa Robinson, who is based in Stamford, says more and more patients are working with naturopathic physicians in addition to their regular doctors.
Internist Dr. Michael Schwartz, of Soundview Medical in Darien, says going the "natural and conventional combo route" can work well for patients. Schwartz says herbal supplements and vitamins can be very important in treating conditions such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and similar illnesses.
He warns patients, however, not to abandon their regular doctor's treatment plan without first consulting them.
